Dr Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative Candidate for Aberdeenshire West is making a renewed commitment to the people of the North East for a Scottish Cancer Drugs Fund. This follows revelations that there are 18 drugs in England and Wales that are not available in Scotland.
The £10million Scottish drugs fund would be established to fund more expensive drugs that have a proven track record of prolonging lives. The fund would ensure that cancer patients who would benefit from these drugs do not miss out because they live north of the border.
Milne said, “It is not acceptable that drugs available to those in England and Wales are not available on the NHS in Scotland. These proposals have been welcomed by cancer sufferers across Scotland as greater availability inevitably leads to a care plan best suited for the individual. It is common sense that drugs that are available in England and Wales that work are available to Scots.”
