Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has written to Transport Minister, Keith Brown MSP calling on the SNP Scottish Government to undertake a road safety review of rural Aberdeenshire roads.
She said:
“Aberdeenshire has the unwanted reputation as having one of the worst safety records on our rural roads.
“In recent weeks a number of incidents have been reported including at the Comers junction on the A944.
“Rural roads account for three in four road deaths, an unacceptable situation which must be addressed. I have long campaigned for safety improvements on rural roads and would like to see a full road safety review undertaken to identify accident hot-spots on rural Aberdeenshire roads so that priority can be given to a work programme to deliver key safety improvements.
“Responsibility for maintaining local roads lies with local authorities however in the case of a number of rural Aberdeenshire roads it is the SNP Scottish Government’s responsibility to fund trunk road improvements.
“Aberdeenshire rural road users will be aware of difficult sections of road or dangerous corners and I believe additional investment can and should be made to make our rural roads safer.”
