Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to undertake a review of the provision of child psychiatric beds in Scotland.
The North East MSP who will meet with new Cabinet Secretary, Shona Robison has also called for clarity whether any young people with mental health problems have ever been admitted into a young offenders institution for treatment.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“It is totally unacceptable that there is only one child psychiatric bed in the North and North East available to treat young people.
"All studies suggest that young people with psychiatric problems see a far better outcome when they receive early medical help and local support.
“For too long metal health has been a Cinderella service and I welcome some the of the positive steps which are now being taken to deliver early interventions and a focus on young people with mental health issues.
Nanette Milne continued:
“I have also sought an assurance from SNP Ministers that no young people with mental health problems have ever been admitted into a young offenders institution for treatment.”
