North East Scottish Conservative MSP, Nanette Milne has written to IKEA to request a meeting to discuss the possibility of the company locating a store in the North East.
The move comes following the Campaign to Bring IKEA to Aberdeen Facebook page passing over 8,000 supporters. Currently there are only two IKEA stores in Scotland, both of which are in the central belt, 54.2 miles apart in Edinburgh and Glasgow.
Nanette Milne MSP has written to IKEA UK to seek a meeting to discuss the possibility of the company locating a store in the North East.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“It is clear that there is a growing positive campaign from North East residents to see an IKEA store located in Aberdeen.
“I always take any opportunity to encourage companies to locate and invest in the North East to help grow our economy and create jobs.
“Currently there are only two IKEA Stores in Scotland, both of which are in the Central Belt. I will be seeking a meeting with IKEA management to see what plans they have to expand their stores in Scotland and what preliminary discussions they have had to potentially open a store in Aberdeen.”
