Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has welcomed the memorandum of understanding between the UK Government and the Association of British Insurers (ABI) to deliver a a flood insurance fund.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“Under the deal agreed by the last Government flood insurance is available and guaranteed by the UK Government even in flood risk areas. The current agreement was set to end in July with a number of constituents and businesses finding it difficult to renew their building insurance, especially against flooding.
“I have seen at first hand the devastation which flooding brings to families, businesses, and communities and the costs faced to recover and rebuild after a flood. Being flooded is bad enough but being flooded without insurance would be catastrophic.
“It is clear that there is still a lot of hard work to secure a workable and affordable flood insurance fund. However, I am pleased that the UK Conservative Government have made welcome progress to deliver a flood insurance fund and hope that this will help to providing peace of mind to 200,000 families and businesses whom live in flood risk areas”
