Dr Nanette Milne Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on SNP Ministers to provide more protection for school playing fields. The call comes after it was revealed that 19% of secondary schools lost school grounds to development.
Dr Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“A survey undertaken by the Scottish Poverty information unit in 2003 found that 19% of secondary schools have lost school grounds to development in the last ten years – with about 10% of secondary schools losing playing fields.
“With the continued concerns regarding childhood obesity and the lack of physical activity being undertaken by young Scots, it is vital that we invest in our local sports infrastructure and protect key outdoor space which is often used post school hours by local sports groups.
“It is time for SNP Minister to take steps to prevent the further loss of school playing fields and for outdoor sports space to be protected for our young people to use.”
