Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East and Shadow Minister for Public Health & Sport has expressed disappointment at the response she has received from SNP Transport Minister, Keith Brown MSP following calls from Grampian Cyclists Touring Club and the Aberdeen Cycle Forum for the AWPR to include a cycle pathway.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East and Shadow Minister for Public Health & Sport said:
“In light of the SNP Scottish Governments policy to try to encourage cycling and the fact that Councils are being encouraged to look to develop cycle pathways it is clearly disappointing that plans have not been put in place to include a cycleway as part of the AWPR and the response which I have received from SNP Transport Minister, Keith Brown MSP states this as being the
“The fact that the AWPR is a new build road could I believe have provided the opportunity for a safe cycleway to form part of the landscaping for the road and encourage people to cycle both for work and leisure.
“I worked to make the case and secure the funding for the cycleway alongside the A96 which has proved successful for many cyclists living to the north of Aberdeenshire. I have been in contact with Grampian Cyclists Touring Club and the Aberdeen Cycle Forum and will seek to raise the issue in the Scottish Parliament.”
