Following the news that all of Scotland’s 32 local authorities have agreed to freeze council tax for next year. Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on SNP Ministers to deliver on their election pledge to introducing a funding floor for local authorities in 2012.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“Conservative run Aberdeenshire Council have done a sterling job in delivering local services and value for money for local taxpayers at the same time as receiving the lowest level of funding per head of population form the SNP Scottish Government.
“Over the past five years, SNP Ministers have failed to reform the local government funding formula which sees both Aberdeen City and Aberdeenshire Councils receive a lower share of funding per head of population.
“Scottish Conservatives have been successful in moving the Scottish Government towards introducing a funding floor for local authorities, however progress towards delivering this and the benefit to North East Councils is still not known.
“In response to questions I have asked in Parliament SNP Ministers have stated it is their intention that this new floor will be in place for the 2012-13 local government finance settlement. North East residents will judge the SNP on delivering this in 2012.”
