Commenting on the latest announcement that the SNP Scottish Government will drive to cut red tape for farmers announced by Rural Affairs Secretary Richard Lochhead today and following the news that Brian Pack has now completed the initial scoping phase of his review.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“I welcome any moves to reduce red tape and bureaucracy on Scotland’s farmers and rural sector.
“Since the SNP came to power in 2007 and Richard Lochhead was appointed the Rural Affairs Secretary, over 40 new and extra regulations have been made in the area of agriculture: meaning even more red tape and bureaucracy being forced on our farmers.
“To date the SNP has failed in its pledge to implement ‘one in, one out’ on regulations affecting Scotland’s farmers.
“Farming is integral to the Scottish economy and Scottish Conservatives believe that we must be doing more to help our farmers instead of forcing more regulations and bureaucracy on them if we are to have a successful, strong, and vibrant farming sector in Scotland.
“Scottish Conservatives will continue to press the SNP Government for a better deal for our farmers and question SNP Ministers on the implementation of the final recommendations from the Pack report.”
