Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative Public Health Spokesman has called on the SNP Scottish Government to support the development of an NHS appointment text messaging service.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative Public Health Spokesman said:
“A number of pilots have already been undertaken by a number of GP practices, using text messaging to help to reduce the number of missed appointments and to help patients to manage their healthcare.
“Being able to text messaging to book or cancel appointments at local Health Centres would be a huge step forward and is something I believe should be adopted by NHS Boards across Scotland.
“The system is already used by both the AA and the other emergency services so the technology to do this does already exist and is being used by the NHS. However, so far the SNP Scottish Government has failed to introduce this system more widely.
“I hope that NHS Health Boards will look to introduce text messaging to help make the appointment system easier for patients as well as supporting those people who are deaf or hard of hearing.”
