Dr Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East and Shadow Minister for Public Health has backed the campaign for the introduction of Skin Cancer Specialist Nurses in NSH Health Board areas.
The call comes following a campaign by Melanoma Action and Support Scotland (MASCOT) to see a Skin Cancer Specialist Nurse in every Scottish NHS Board area to support patients with Malignant Melanoma.
The Shadow Minister for Public Health has raised the issue with Minister for Public Health, Michael Matheson MSP.
Dr Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said: “It is welcome that increasingly people are becoming aware of changes to their skin and seeking medical help immediately if they find any worrying changes to moles or skin.
“Skin Cancer Specialist Nurses support people diagnosed with skin cancer by explaining the illness and treatment, are available to discuss any emotional worries or concerns and help co-ordinate the care and treatment people require.
“For those who have skin cancer or are having tests to confirm possible skin cancer it can be a worrying and frightening time for you, your relatives or carers. Specialist Skin Cancer Nurse can offer support and advice at any time throughout your illness.
“I have written to Michael Matheson MSP, SNP Minister for Public Health to ask the Scottish Government what resources it will provide to help with the appointment of skin cancer specialist nurses.”
