Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has raised the issue of the legality of water bills that do not contain meter readings with the Water Industry Commission for Scotland.
The move comes following a number of constituents who have contacted Nanette Milne MSP having received significantly increased bills for non-domestic water use.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“I have been contacted by a number of constituents who have received significantly increased bills for non-domestic water which have not contained meter readings.
“Water companies are required to read customers’ meters on 2 occasions per year, however in many cases water companies provide estimated bills to rural properties. In the case where a leak takes place householders may be charged for water over a six month period when they are not aware of water leaking from their supply.
“I believe that this issue may be a significant one for many properties across rural Scotland. Scottish Conservatives have therefore written to the Water Industry Commission for Scotland regarding the legality of water bills that do not contain meter readings to ask for a ruling on this matter.”
