Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has written to Shona Robison MSP, Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport to ask what tickets are to be made available to local school children for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.
The North East MSP has also called on the Scottish Government to develop a strategy to help encourage young people and older people to take part and make sure that communities across the North East benefit.
Over 125,000 free tickets were made available to schoolchildren during the 2012 London Olympics. Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“After the spectacular success of the London Olympics, attention now focuses on preparations for the 2014 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and the Ryder Cup at Gleneagles.
“The Commonwealth Games in 2014 will be one of Scotland’s greatest sporting events so it’s only right the next generation is right at the heart of the action.
“Watching some of world’s greatest athletes reach for gold, these young Scots will form a huge part of what could be the most enduring legacy of these Games; a generation inspired and motivated to achieve their best in the classroom and out on the playing field.
“The organising committee of the 2012 London Olympics provided for over 125,000 free tickets were made available to schoolchildren during the 2012 London Olympics.
“I have written to Shona Robison MSP, Minister for Commonwealth Games and Sport to ask what tickets are to be made available to local school children for the Commonwealth Games in 2014.”
