Speaking ahead of attending the ACSEF Economic Summit – Securing Investment or Success. Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called on the Scottish Government to priorities delivering the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.
The delay in delivering key North East infrastructure projects such as the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and Aberdeen City Council not progressing with the Union Terrace / City Gardens project is impacting on the North East economy.
Scottish Conservatives have called on the SNP Scottish Government to priorities the delivery of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route (AWPR), and the dualling of the A90 Peterhead to Aberdeen road between Tipperty and Bridge of Don.
Speaking during General Questions in the Scottish Parliament, North East MSP Nanette Milne, asked SNP Ministers what assessment the Scottish Government has made of the impact on the North East economy from the delay in delivering North East infrastructure projects.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“Motorists and businesses across the North East have been let down by the SNP. Five years into an SNP Government and not a single inch of new road has been built in the North East.
“The North East is the powerhouse of the Scottish economy yet the region has not seen the investment in the infrastructure projects the area so desperately needs.
“The delivery of the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route should be a key national priority and given the same importance and status as the Force Replacement Crossing.
“I hope that following the ruling by the Supreme Court on the remaining legal challenge Ministers will move to priorities delivering the Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route.
“The record of Conservative Governments and this SNP Government is like chalk and cheese. Under the last Conservative Government the North East saw significant investment with the dualing of the A90 between Aberdeen and Dundee, dualing of the A96 between Aberdeen and Inverness had begun with the dualing between Aberdeen and Inverurie, and the dualing of the A90 between Aberdeen and Peterhead had also begun with investment to dual the A90 between Aberdeen and Balmeddie.”
