Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has called for an Aberdeen summit to take forward the proposal for an Aberdeen Energy Academy. The call comes following a report commissioned by PricewaterhouseCoopers which called for the creation of an Aberdeen Energy Academy within two or three years.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“The energy sector in Aberdeen is working hard to recruit the skilled individuals needed to meet the sectors needs now and in the future.
“The report commissioned by PricewaterhouseCoopers has suggested that the energy sector must attract 120,000 recruits if it is to realise its potential as a global energy capital.
“Aberdeen is well placed with its two leading Universities and Colleges which have shown in the past that they can adapt to the economic needs of the region. This combined with the great hunger from the energy sector to develop the future potential that will be at the forefront of developing new technology, new investment and world-class skills and expertise.
“Prime Minister, David Cameron has given his pledge to support the creation of an energy academy and work to support the development of infrastructure to deliver the training and skills needed by the energy sector.
“It is important that both of Scotland’s Governments at Holyrood and at Westminster work together to take forward the proposal for the Aberdeen Energy Academy. I have therefore today written to Mike Russell MSP, Cabinet Secretary for Education and Lifelong Learning and John Hayes MP, the new UK energy Minister to ask for consideration to be given to a summit in Aberdeen in order to bring together all interested parties to move forward the proposal for an Aberdeen Energy Academy.”
