Mearns Conservatives have selected their candidates to fight the forthcoming Aberdeenshire Council elections in May next year.
Sitting Cllr George Carr will be joined by current Mearns Community Council Chairman David Nelson to represent the Mearns area.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Carr said he was thrilled to be joined by David to build on the work currently underway to represent the interests of the 14 Mearns towns and villages.
“David has a proven track record of service and dedicated involvement with many organisations which make up our community. His experience will be invaluable as a Cllr”
David is a former Manager of the Glensaugh Research Station and Chair of Mearns Academy School Board. He was past President of Laurencekirk and District Rotary Club and has lived and worked in the community for the last 26 years. He said,
“I am looking forward to the election next year and working alongside George. Since he was elected in 2007 as the first Conservative Cllr in the area for some time, he has made a big impact locally and especially at Edzell Woods where very difficult issues required attention. We will work well together as a team to represent all of the Mearns”.
Ongoing issues which the Conservatives identify as future challenges include the transition of activities to a new Mearns Academy Community School opening in 2014, A90 junction, public transport issues, promoting the regeneration of the coastal zone, wind turbine developments, proliferation, and management of associated community funds.
