Jeff Hutchison was brought up in the Stonehaven area. He has a teenage daughter who is studying animal science in Edinburgh. Jeff is a graduate of Scottish Agricultural College and a graduate of the Scottish Rural Leadership Programme. He specialised in crop agronomy before returning home to work for his family farming business at Elrick near Stonehaven.
A local government candidate for the old Stonehaven North and Fetteresso ward in 2003 and for Stonehaven and Lower Deeside in 2012, Jeff has a proven commitment and interest for the Kincardine and Mearns area of Aberdeenshire council.
Jeff says “ If elected my focus will be on maintaining standards, being vigilant, and keeping schools, roads and other services up to scratch. I am fully aware of the challenges facing Aberdeenshire such as the energy sector downturn, relative high levels of fuel poverty, lack of affordable housing and connectivity issues. However, there are still opportunities in subsea expertise and our other economic sectors in life science, food and drink, tourism, fishing and farming.”
Councillor George Carr said "I am thrilled that Jeff has been selected to contest the Mearns ward in May along with myself. Jeff is a great campaigner and I know he will fight hard for Mearns residents and be a formidable Councillor."
