Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has challenged the SNP Scottish Government on the potential impact of Council Tax reforms.
Under proposals outlined in the Commission on Local Tax Reform changes to the banding system such as the introduction of two new top-rate bands would see Council Tax in Aberdeen increase from £2,461 a year to around £3,960.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“The proposals outlined in the Commission on Local Tax Reform changes to the banding system such as the introduction of two new top-rate bands would see Council Tax in Aberdeen increase from £2,461 a year to around £3,960.
“There is increasing concern that Edinburgh households which already pay some of the highest council tax levels in Scotland will be hit by new higher bands proposed under theCommission on Local Tax Reform.
“Any changes by the SNP to the banding system such as the introduction of two new top-rate bands would see council tax in Edinburgh increase from £2,338 a year to around £3,960.
“It is now becoming clear that any changes to the council tax banding system will see North East tax payers disproportionately affect by these proposals.
“Scottish Conservatives will always work to hold the SNP to account, stand firm against a second referendum and oppose tax rises for hard working Scottish families.”
