Scottish Conservatives have written to British Telecom to enquire about additional phone boxes being made available to locate Community automated external defibrillators (AEDs).
In 2008 BT introduced, the Adopt A Kiosk scheme which has allowed a number of community automated external defibrillators (AEDs) to be located in phone boxes.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“Every two minutes of every day someone in the UK suffers a heart attack.
“A patient who is defibrillated immediately has an 85% chance of survival. Each minute delay with no intervention reduces this by 5%; with the national 8 minute response time allowed for an ambulance to arrive, will potentially result in the patient’s chance of survival being reduced to 45%.
“Many rural communities see an emergency ambulance response time far higher than urban communities and therefore there is a significant case for more life-saving defibrillators to be located in rural communities.
“I have written to BT to enquire about other possible phone boxes in Scotland which could be made available to locate Community Defibrillators in order to increase the number across Scotland.
