Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East has welcomed the free wi-fi which has gone live at Aberdeen railway station. However, the North East MSP has called on SNP Ministers for a timetable for when other North East stations will receive free wi-fi.
Across Scotland, wifi goes live today at Aberdeen, Anniesland, Ayr, Dalmarnock, Dunfermline Town, Exhibition Centre, Falkirk High, Fort William, Glasgow Queen Street, Helensburgh Central, Inverness, Kilmarnock, Kirkcaldy, Linlithgow, Mount Florida, Paisley Gilmour Street, Partick, Perth, Stirling, and Wemyss Bay.
The North East MSP has called on the Transport Ministers to provide a timetable for free wi-fi to be provided at Arbroath, Carnoustie, Dyce (Aberdeen Airport), Huntly, Insch, Inverurie, Laurencekirk, Montrose, and Portlethen stations.
Nanette Milne, Scottish Conservative MSP for the North East said:
“Rail passengers across Scotland will very much welcome the free wi-fi which has been provided for many railway stations in Scotland and I welcome the free wi-fi which has been installed at Aberdeen.
“Improved wi-fi connection will allow many business commuters to remain connected and work while travelling. It is also hoped that improved wi-fi will encourage more people to travel by rail.”
Nanette Milne MSP continued:
“I was disappointed that the SNP Scottish Government yet again short-changed the North East when they announced the original list of stations which would receive free wi-fi.
“A number of North East residents have complained that Dyce station serving Aberdeen Airport still does not have wi-fi and was not originally included in the upgrade. It is my understanding that Dyce is now potentially the only train station serving an international airport in Britain to not have free wi-fi available for passengers. A situation which is clearly not acceptable in this day and age.
“Many rail users across the North East have expressed their disappointed that the SNP Scottish Government did not include other North East stations in the original wi-fi funding and I have lobbied SNP Ministers to get them to put this right at the earliest opportunity.
“I have today written to SNP Transport Minister, Keith Brown MSP to call for a timetable for when North East stations will receive free wi-fi and ask that this be addressed as soon as possible so that Scotland can have a 21st Century rail service.”
